Morehead is located in Rowan County, Kentucky, situated on I-64 in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and nestled in the heart of the Daniel Boone National Forest.
Morehead serves as the economic and cultural hub of the region. The Rowan County School System is made up of six schools--four elementary schools, one middle school and one high school. Beautiful Cave Run Lake, an 8,270-acre recreational lake located within minutes of Morehead in the Daniel Boone National Forest, hosts some of the best muskie fishing in the United States.
The lake has two campgrounds with nearly 400 campsites for both RV and tent camping. Twelve boat ramps are located on the lake, and hiking trails provide miles of exploration. Enthusiasts return time and time again to this exciting, yet relaxing environment offering fun-filled adventures to people of all ages.
