Dr. Craig H. Burrows, formally of Newfane, New York, was appointed Program Site Director for the University of Kentucky Family Medicine Residency Program in Morehead, Kentucky.

A 1984 graduate of Newfane Central High School, Dr. Burrows attended Houghton College in Houghton, NY completing a BS in Biology and then was accepted to SUNY Buffalo School of Medicine. Graduating in 1993 Magna Cum Laude, he went on to St Vincent Family Medicine Residency in Erie PA, completing the program in 1996 and receiving the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine Resident Teacher award. Dr. Burrows is Board Certified by the American Board of Family Medicine.

Dr. Burrows was a recipient of the National Health Service Corps Scholarship during Medical School requiring him to practice in an underserved area. Since moving to Morehead, Kentucky in 1996, he continues to practice full spectrum family medicine working for St Claire Healthcare while also participating in medical education of students and residents associated with the University of Kentucky.

Dr. Burrows received the designation of Fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians in 2004 after completing a rigorous application process that demonstrated his commitment to the principles of Family Medicine, his leadership in the local and regional medical community, his participation in the education of the next generation of medical professionals and his efforts in volunteer service both locally and internationally.

In 1999, Dr. Burrows was instrumental in establishing the University of Kentucky Rural Morehead Family Practice Residency Program and served as the first site director from 1999-2005. The mission of this program is to train residents in full spectrum rural Family Medicine in order to meet the needs of underserved populations in the Appalachian region.

Although Dr. Burrows turned over the directorship in 2005, he remained as faculty and continued to serve the educational needs of the residents and students rotating at St Claire Healthcare. He received the Faculty Preceptor of the Year Award in 1999, the University of Kentucky Five years of Teaching Excellence in Family Medicine in 2004, the Residency Family Medicine Faculty of the Year award in 2013 and 2016, and the Lifetime Achievement Award for teaching in 2013.

Dr. Burrows has served at St Claire Healthcare as the Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the Department of Medicine, Medical Staff President and is currently Member at Large on the Executive Committee. Burrows has faculty appointments at the University of Kentucky and the University of Louisville.

In March of 2017, Dr. Burrows was appointed to reassume the position of Program Site Director for the residency. He is responsible for the education of the residents, the development of curriculum, the coordination of faculty and the evaluation of the program. Current plans are to expand the number of residents in training, establish new clinical training sites, and integrate Osteopathic medicine into the training of the residents.

Dr. Burrows resides with his wife and family in Morehead, KY.
