St. Claire Regional Medical Center welcomed the 1st baby, actually babies, of the New Year on January 1, 2021. Baby boy, Adrian Bernard Allen, Jr., and his twin sister Armani Briella were born to proud parents Rhianna Burns and Adrian Allen of Morehead.
Adrian Jr. arrived at 11:04 AM weighing 5 lbs 7 oz., and measuring 19 3/4 inches long. Armani arrived quickly after at 11:05 AM, at 5 lbs 15 oz, measuring 18 1/4 inches long.
The twins were delivered by Frank LaBarbara, MD, OB/GYN with UK Morehead Women’s Healthcare.
“We cannot say enough about how amazing the entire team was, especially dealing with our emergency c-section. Everything went so smooth and everyone acted very fast,” said Burns. “The entire team, doctors, nurses, and staff did such an amazing job from the very beginning.”
“I was so excited to participate in the care of our New Year’s babies, said St. Claire Women’s Care Nurse Manager Jon Nicole Tate, BSN, RN. “The New Year Baby is always special, but twins … this will be memorable.”
According to Burns, the twins weren’t due until January 27. While the couple knew twins are typically born early, they had no idea it would be on New Year’s Day!
“We are so blessed, happy, and excited to be the first family to give birth at St. Claire Regional Medical Center in 2021,” said Burns. “We didn’t expect to have the New Year’s babies, much less be surprised with gifts!”
St. Claire celebrated the first babies of the New Year by showering Adrian and Armani with gifts including a Pack ‘N’ Play, a car seat, a diaper bag and diapers, a sleepy time baby gift set, and additional basic care items.
The family also received a handcrafted wooden rocking horse built and donated by Paul Glesge, a local woodworker and owner of Pony Express Wood Specialties. Glegse has been donating these special rocking horses to UK St. Claire’s New Year Baby for 15 years.
“We feel so blessed to receive the handmade rocking horse. The twins will definitely be sharing it! It’s their first toy! It’s really amazing and the sweetest gesture,” said Burns.
Adrian and Armani were welcomed with love from their parents and siblings Kyndra, Braydon, Tierra, Adrianna, Treasure, and Jasmine.
