St. Claire HealthCare Proudly Welcomes Emergency Medicine Physician Zachary Hollins, MD

St. Claire HealthCare is proud to welcome emergency medicine physician, Zachary Hollins, MD, to its medical staff.

A native of Harlan, Kentucky, Dr. Hollins was first introduced to medicine by his grandfathers, who both were doctors in his hometown and passionate about caring for people in underserved communities.

“Although I had grown up with doctors in my family, I didn’t really understand the scope of medicine until I was in medical school,” said Dr. Hollins.

Dr. Hollins attended Eastern Kentucky University, receiving his Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2016. He continued his education at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine as part of the Rural Physician Leadership Program (RPLP). While part of RPLP, Hollins completed his clinical rotations at SCH.

“I spent my clinical time here at St. Claire and built strong connections with the staff, patient population, and this community,” he said. “It speaks volumes that when I came back here, three years later after finishing residency, the physicians are still here and happy to be serving this area.”

Dr. Hollins recently completed his emergency medicine residency at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Nashville, TN.

“I realized early in medical school that there was not a specific system-based specialty that I was passionate to pursue, but after being exposed to emergency medicine—the atmosphere, the physicians, the nursing staff—I had a clear understanding that this was the specialty where I belonged. I met the most influential people right here at St. Claire,” said Dr. Hollins. “I enjoy practicing in a specialty that has so much applicability to everyday life.”

Dr. Hollins finds that working in the emergency department allows him to provide patients with education and teaching reassurance in their moments of uncertainty.

“I am very grateful to give back to a community that gave so much to me and helped me in my medical journey,” he added.

Dr. Hollins joins an experienced team of doctors, nurses, and other healthcare providers in the St. Claire HealthCare emergency department providing 24/7 emergency care.
