UK St. Claire (SCH) is pleased to announce that its pharmacy department is the winner of the 2023 Kentucky Society of Health-System Pharmacists (KSHP) Innovative Health-System Pharmacy Practice for Small or Rural Hospitals.
This award acknowledges institutions that develop and implement state-of-the-art processes that improve patient care and contribute to the overall practice of pharmacy. In order to be eligible for this award a hospital must operate outside of the Louisville/Lexington contiguous metropolitan area or have less than 100 beds.
“It was an honor to accept this award on behalf of our amazing team. This group of pharmacists, along with others across the enterprise, worked tirelessly throughout the pandemic to provide excellent, compassionate care to our most vulnerable population,” said Caitlin Guerin, Pharm D, RPh, Director of Pharmacy for SCH. “They helped to save lives and prevent the hospitalization of countless patients and I am proud to lead this team.”
In order to be eligible for this award the institution must have implemented changes with specific consideration to the needs of the Small or Rural Hospital practice environment to make significant progress towards implementing one or more aspects of the ASHP Pharmacy Practice Advancement Initiative. This can be accomplished through optimizing pharmacists’ roles within the health system, advancing the application of information technology in the medication use process, advancing the use of pharmacy technicians, or successful implementation of new pharmacy practice initiatives.
