UK St. Claire Foundation Announces Employee Scholarship Recipients

The UK St. Claire (SCH) Foundation is excited to award scholarships to current employees who are pursuing healthcare degrees through the Bertha Ross Hough Endowment Scholarship, the C. Louise Caudill Scholarship in Honor of Susie Halblieb, the Vinod Makhija, MD, Scholarship, and a Health Care Administration Fellowship.

The Bertha Ross Hough Endowment Scholarship was established by her family to honor her memory by assisting individuals aspiring to further their education and careers. This is a $1,000 award presented to individuals who are residents of specific Kentucky counties, with preference given to employees of SCH. These students are pursing either an associate or bachelor health care program. The 2024 recipients of the Bertha Ross Hough Endowment Scholarship are:

  • Amber Brewer, a native of Salt Lick, KY and employee of SCH, attends Collins Career and Technical Center and studies nursing.
  • Kerrigan Campbell, a resident of Morehead, KY and employee of SCH, attends Morehead State University and majors in radiology.
  • Matthew Carpenter, a native of Olive Hill, KY and employee of SCH, attends Morehead State University and majors in pre-physical therapy
  • Jodi Perkins, a resident of Morehead, KY and employee of SCH, attends Morehead State University and majors in nursing.

The C. Louise Caudill Scholarship in Honor of Susie Halblieb is awarded to SCH employees who are in training programs for Licensed Practical Nursing (LPN) and Allied Health Programs. This year’s recipients are:

  • Alicia Clark, a native of Olive Hill, KY, attends Morehead State University and majors in nursing.
  • Chancten Fox, a native of Olive Hill, KY, attends Morehead State University and majors in nursing.
  • John Self, a resident of Morehead, KY, attends Kentucky Community & Technical College and is studying to become a certified medical assistant.

The Vinod Makhija, MD, Scholarship is presented to an individual employed by SCH who is pursuing postgraduate studies in a health related field. The recipient of the 2024 Makhija Scholarship is Joelle Craft. A resident of Olive Hill, KY, who serves as a clinical educator at SCH and is pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing to become a Family Nurse Practitioner.

This year, an inaugural Health Care Administration Fellowship Is awarded to a student pursuing a graduate degree in health care administration. Anna Heineman, a native of Ashland, KY, and recent graduate of Morehead State University, will be pursing her Master of Science in Health Care Administration this fall at Marshall University.
