Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is a set of techniques that can be used to diagnose, treat, and prevent illness or injury. It involves the physician moving a patient’s muscles and joints in order to restore the normal function of those tissues. There are a variety of techniques that can be used in OMT, but most include stretching, resistance, and gentle pressure.
OMT can be used to help patients of all ages, and while it is often used to help with muscle and joint pain, it can also help with respiratory and sinus conditions, headaches and jaw pain, and pregnancy-related pain, just to name a few.
Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (DOs) are fully licensed physicians who practice in all areas of medicine. During their training, DOs receive specialized training in the musculoskeletal system, giving them an in-depth knowledge of the bones, muscles, and nerves of the body. Many of our DOs use this knowledge to provide patients with Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT).
